Signs from God

Then the LORD answered me and said: Write the vision; make it plain on tablets, so that a runner may read it.            Habakkuk 2:2

Consider the amount of messages you receive on your average morning drive: billboards, radio advertisements, bumper-stickers, personalized license plates. Be they big or small, long or short, someone is seeking to communicate something to you. It’s a wonder our brains can sort them all out and prioritize which ones really matter.

We find in the Bible God seeking to communicate with his people countless times. Generally speaking, God’s messages clustered around three broad themes  1) Shape Up!  2) I love you. and 3) I’m about to do something so get ready. God used people, called “prophets” to bring his messages. The prophets were commonly reluctant to do the task. The people commonly disliked and even ignored(!) these messages from God. God sending his son Jesus is the culmination of God’s messages. God in flesh and blood, directly bringing his Word to the people.
God gave the prophet Habakkuk some unique guidance. Write his vision plainly in such a way that a runner could read it. His was a message that needed to be seen by the people, in big letters. Make a sign!

Amazing Grace has a new sign. Our old sign served us well for many years. It would be a blessing if the new sign lasts as long. With our new sign, we will be able to communicate with our neighbors. We’ll be inviting, including, and expecting them to come. Will we be ready for them? Will anyone care enough to come? These are two questions that have been on my mind lately.

A common question people have asked about the sign is concerning its placement. The sign was constructed as close to the road that the law permits. We will be cutting down some brush to improve the visibility

I am excited for our new sign. It is yet another way to let people know who we are as grace-centered, caring, fun-loving Christians. In a way, each of us is a sign, a message about God and what God can do in a person’s life.  The sign out front is only a small part of our message. Everyone bears the message: Christ’s Grace is, in fact, amazing, and that there is a place here for everyone to experience it.

Grace and Peace,
Pastor Jason
