Seeing is Believing: Projection Screens in Worship

Then the LORD answered me and said: Write the vision; make it plain on tablets, so that a runner may read it. Habbakuk 2:2

One aspect unique to Amazing Grace’s identity is its history of being innovative. Throughout our church’s history, there has been an openness doing ministry in creative ways. This dates back to our founding and even our name, Amazing Grace. This isn’t your grandfather’s Lutheran church has always been a part of the spirit of this congregation. In fact, our mission statement states We are a dynamic Lutheran Church providing both innovative and traditional opportunities for all people.

Change of any kind can be a challenge, be it at church, work or home. In a way, adding two screens is a big deal. But in another way, the impact of the screens is minimal in that we will continue to do what we have always done in worship, just with an added dimension

Perhaps the following bPerhaps the following break-down will help in assessing what adding the screens mean:

What we gain: exp An enhanced worship experience, hands-free worship, good stewardship for the environment by using less paper, savings on paper and copier costs. Eventually, I hope to use the screens for my sermons, showing key verses, highlighting the main points and even using images. Adult education will be able to use screens for video-classes.

What we lose: there may be a loss of being focused on the “center” that is, the worship leader, since eyes will also be on the screen. Banners will need to be slightly moved. The sanctuary lighting may eventually need to be changed, since sight-lines will likely be affected by the chandeliers.

What remains the same: week, for the sake of all who might prefer them. The hymnals will remain in the pews, for those who might prefer singing from them. Most importantly, we will continue to offer quality liturgical worship, good music, along with relevant, Christ-centered preaching.

I look forward to taking this exciting step with you. As with any transition, there may be bumps in the road, but ultimately, I believe this addition will invigorate worship and make us more attractive to visitors..

Be sure to watch the Sunday bulletin for more details as to when we will begin using the screens.
